Narrow Arrows

I’ve got narrow arrows telling me which way to go,
but yours is such a heavy, heavy, heavy, heavy hand to hold,
the weight on my wrist is tugging me too low,
my arm out of its socket so I had to let you go,
and i’ll never get out of this world a live,
my patron saint once said and then he up and died,
and truer words have never been spoken,
but you can’t trust the word of any man.
Oh, no.
belief in Heaven is belief in Hell,
believing in God is belief in the Devil,
belief in me is belief in us, and I believe you but I wouldn’t call it trust,
an intuition, a feeling in my gut,
but that’s shit out on me before and left me in a rut,
I’ve got my beliefs and I’ve got my doubts,
and plenty in this world I know nothing about.
Oh, no.
I’ve written stories and I’ve written songs,
But sometimes I wanna be the one who sings along,
I know good from bad, and I know right from wrong,
But sometimes I pretend to not know what’s going on.
